Site name Villeneuve-Saint-Germain
location FR 2-Aisne
museum URA 12 (CNRS and University of Paris I)
Typology Class 1
Description There is one example of a large jar of our class 1, apparently in a dark coloured, heavily micaceous fabric, from this site. (Site reference number : VSG 82.411. The vessel has not been examined and its identification as TF1 awaits confirmation.) Fleury (1986, fig.3) records Dressel 1a and 1b amphoras from the Villeneuve-Saint-Germain (the latter the more common) but occupation apparently closes before the appearance of samian and other classes of Augustan fine wares. A provisional terminus ante quem of c.|30/20|BC may be proposed.
