A single example of the C262 form
is illustrated by Piette
from a temple site at
Villeneuve-au-Châtelot.
Other than the colour (brown exterior, black interior)
the fabric is not described,
but traces of a burnt cord or string were
noted at the neck.
The jar is associated with a small bowl in
a wheel-thrown grey ware,
and is probably of Augustan or later date.
Epernay Museum contains a collection of grey wares jars and bowls
from a pottery workshop excavated at
Villeneuve-au-Châtelot in 1938,
referred to briefly in
Gallia

The production probably dates to the mid- or late-first century AD,
and although there are none amongst this
material it has been suggested that some of the
grey-ware moulded-rim jars
found at Melun were produced at kilns here.
