Site name Description Feurs There is one example of le type Besançon from Feurs fosse 1 - a small sherd probably from a jar of our class 2. The fragment has broken above the shoulde., so it is not clear if it was decorated. The fabric of the jar is not described, but it is stated that the ware of the Feurs and Roanne examples of le type Besançon is the same. The latter are TF1. Le Crêt-Chatêlard Ferdière records several examples of le type Besançon from this site and amongst material examined in Roanne museum there were examples of type C262 in TF1. Vaginay illustrates the rim of a necked-jar (Vaginay 1986, fig.8,2) part of a group described as `céramiques grossière non-tournées' and noted as being an example of le type Besançon[3]. The same group includes Dressel 1b amphoras ( ibid., fig.8,12-15) and a plate imitating a Campanian form (fig.8,11). Roanne Roanne is one of the most important sites for our understanding of the early history of TF1. There are large numbers of jars of class 1 and 2 and C262 from first century BC levels, associated with a wide range of imports and local wares. Bessou's 1976 publication, currently one of the largest published assemblages from the site, will shortly be superceded by a new study of the material based largely on the material from Saint-Paul.
