| Description |
Simple open bowls are probably the commonest type
in the Amplepuis assemblage,
but there are also numbers of necked jars.
Some are plain with one or more
rows of simple marks at the shoulder but
others feature more complex decorative schemes
including bands of comb impressions,
as found in the early levels at Roanne.
There are a few moulded-rim jars
illustrated from the Terrail site
which may be of our class 1 or 2
(Perichon and Jacquet 1985,
pl.20,2; pl.22,2; pl.23,3)
but there are no fabric descriptions.
The majority
of the material is considered to be from `local' sources
(
ibid.,
74).
Occupation at Anplepuis probably commences
before the Caesarian period
(the assemblage includes both Dressel 1a and 1b amphoras)
but the publications also include early Roman material.
