| Description |
It is reasonably clear that TF1,
or any other vessels in the moulded-rim style,
are
not
a significant component of the Lyon ceramic assemblage,
or indeed on any site further south.
The principal early Roman coarse ware jar from Lyon
displays a horizontally rilled neck
(e.g.
Goudineau ed. 1989, fig.66,16, fig.71,75, fig.74,37, fig.76,8)
which is clearly derived from the style of
jar current on pre-conquest sites in the region such as Vienne
(Chapotat 1970, pl.XLVII).
However,
M. Philip Thirion of the
Direction Régionale des Antiquités Historiques de Rhône-Alpes
informs the writer that there are be a few sherds
from recently excavated sites in Lyon which
may
be compared with le type Besançon.
These have not been examined.
