| Description |
Stuart's type 306 is a moulded-rim jar with a micaceous slip.
Two examples are listed in the catalogue (Stuart 1977, 88),
II i 43 (from Grafveld E,
ibid.,
Fig.56,7 - illustrated here FIG.16,3)
and
II f 59 (Grafveld O).
There is another similar vessel from Grafveld O
in the G.M.Kam Museum
(II i 44, here FIG.16, 2).
The jars II i 43 and II i 44
are wheel-thrown,
the fabrics orange or grey-brown
and micaceous or with a micaceous slip on the shoulder -
these are not TF1.
Cemeteries O and E contain burials
dating from the Augustan period until the
end of the first century AD
(ibid.,|71-3).
Stuart cites
Oberaden type 101,
Camulodunum
type 262
and the vessels from
Haltern,
and Neuss
as parallels for the Nijmegen series.
There are also two moulded-rim jars
from the Augustan Kopesplateau site
(Giebels 1973, pl.XVIII, 6-7),
one of which (FIG.16,4)
has mica and a black sand in the fabric,
but this is not in TF1.
