| Description |
Three jars of form C262 from Vertault were on exhibition
in Chatillon-sur-Seine Museum in 1991.
Several fabrics are represented.
One is in a grey wheel-thrown ware, rather lumpy
in texture and superficially rather similar in appearance to
a vessel from nearby Alesia.
The second is in a wheel-thrown coarse orange-brown fabric
with traces of a micaceous slip on the upper
part of the body.
The last is rather finer than the others,
with a micaceous wash on the rim and shoulder,
but rather unevenly finished on the lower part of the body.
Rigby and Freestone (1986,14)
note one possible example of a jar in their `Standard Fabric'
(our TF2)
on display in this museum from Vertault.
This is presumably
a reference to the third vessel described above,
but any such attribution must be considered tentative
before the vessels can be examined in more detail.
