| Description |
Bourbon-Lancy is perhaps best known as the site
of a workshop for the manufacture of ceramic figurines,
but the published report includes a small collection of coarser wares,
including moulded-rim jars of the types considered here.
Three vessels similar in form to C262 (fig.74, 6-7; fig.75, 8)
are described as `pâte beige avec des inclusions sableuses'
and two of these feature a black slip on the rim and shoulder.
The assemblage also includes two larger jars
with incised decoration on the shoulder
(fig.76, 17 - fabric as above; fig.91, 7 -
`pâte à coeur gris, surfaces beige avec .. engobe noir').
These are all dated to the first half of the first century AD.
Later assemblages,
of the second century AD,
also include numbers of moulded-rim jars and bowls (figs.78-79)
which differ in detail from those listed above,
but may suggest that the later development of moulded-rim
in this area.
There is no indication that any of these pots are local products
but the identification of the fabrics is uncertain,
given the detail of the published descriptions.
